Tauranga, March 26 – Deer farmers starting a project to introduce estimated breeding values to New Zealand herds have won a $77,000 grant from the Foundation for Science, Research and Technology.
Elite Deer project manager Kelvin O’Hara said he was delighted with the contribution towards the three-year project.
He estimated the cost of the research and the operational structures to establish breeding values would be more than $200,000 over a three-year period.
The system would allow an objective ranking of stock, determined by factors such as their productive lifespan and the productivity of their offspring,
