CREST “Show and Tell” at Wellington High School

Wellington High School students Oska Rego, Morgan Christy Jones, Rachel Linton and Hazel Osborne give a presentation about their respective Silver and Gold CREST projects.

The recent visit to New Zealand by Her Excellency Dr Madiha Bint Ahmed Nasser Al-Shaibani, the Minister of Education for the Sultanate of Oman and a delegation of her Education officials provided an opportunity for Wellington High School students Oska  Rego, Morgan Christy Jones, Rachel Linton and Hazel Osborne to give a presentation about their respective Silver and Gold CREST projects.

Oska and Morgan talked about their participation in the NZIFST/CREST Challenge  and their learning whilst undertaking their 2010 project,   C-Monster, whilst Rachel and Hazel talked about their 2011 “Snap”  project.

Both Oska and Morgan told the delegation how they have continued with their food science/technology CREST investigations and have, nearly, completed their individual Gold CREST projects.

Food Technology teachers Mrs Marietjie Van Schlkwyk and Ms Karen Saunders, talked about how they implement CREST in their teaching and learning programmes  and Mr Dennis Thomas, from FSANZ, outlined his role as a CREST consultant/Mentor.

Principal Mr Nigel Henton concluded the presentation by giving an overview of the benefits of participating in programmes  such as  CREST.

Congratulations to Oska, Morgan, Rachel and Hazel. All four students demonstrated the CREST attributes of creativity, perseverance, application of their knowledge and effective communication. They were a credit to themselves, to their teachers, school and to CREST.
