Governance structure

  • Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand
    The Council has a governance role within the Society and consists of the President and the Councillors elected, appointed or co-opted in accordance with the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1997. 

  • Committees
    The Royal Society appoints multi-disciplinary committees and advisory groups which provide, where relevant, information to the science community, the general public and the New Zealand government. Editorial boards administer the journals produced by the Royal Society of New Zealand.

  • The Academy
    The mission of the Academy is to honour, recognise and encourage outstanding achievement in the sciences, technologies and humanities as well as to assist and support the activities of the Royal Society of New Zealand.

Membership Structure

There are several types of membership:

Individual members

  • List of Members of the Royal Society
    Any person who is able and willing to subscribe to the object of the Society can become an individual Member of the Royal Society of New Zealand.

  • Fellowship of the Royal Society
    Fellowship of the Royal Society of New Zealand (FRSNZ) is an honour conferred for distinction in research or the advancement of science, or technology, or the humanities.

  • Companions of the Royal Society
    The title of Companion of the Royal Society of New Zealand (CRSNZ) is an honour conferred for achieving a high level of eminence in the promotion or encouragement of science or technology.

As a Member of the Royal Society you will help promote science, technology and research through the Society's many activities.

Constituent and Affiliate Organisations

Constituent and Affiliate organisation status is granted, by Council, to any organisation that is able and willing to subscribe to the object of the Society. They are also members of the Society.
