Abstract Modelling fruits by applying ellipsoidal parametric equations and concave-convex texture and colour texture processing, we realised the visualisation of different fruits. Creating surface bumpiness by applying a perturbation function to the ellipsoidal surface normal, we can simulate geometric shapes of different fruits. Using basic functions to define colour and texture change, we can simulate surface colour of different fruits. The key is to analyse the relation of the fruit’s shape to the ellipsoid, and find perturbation functions. The method is simple in that it consists of few different elements, and they can be automatically changed. It is easy to construct an exterior model, a growth model and a body model of virtual fruits. This paper shows a few examples of building models of virtual fruits.
