Abstract Disphyma australe is subdivided into two subspecies, namely ssp. australe common on the main islands of New Zealand, and ssp. stricticaule endemic to the Kermadec Islands. Disphyma blackii Chinnock is reduced to synonymy with D. clavellatum (Haw.) Chinnock comb. nov. ( = Mesembryanthemum clavellatum Haw.).
