Pterostylis cardiostigma - a new species of Orchidaceae from Wellington, New Zealand

Abstract Pterostylis cardiostigma D. Cooper sp. nov. from the eastern hills of Wellington Harbour and the southern Tararuas, is described and illustrated. It is distinguished from other species of the genus by its characteristic heart-shaped stigma, red markings, and upright habit of both the leaves and the flower. Flowering period is from early October to early December.
