Abstract The diffusive conductance of leaves of
Nothofagus menziesii was found to be very sensi-
tive to ambient humidity with stomatal closure
commencing at vapour pressure deficits of between
0.5 and 1.0 kPa. Responses were more rapid in
leaves from trees growing in humid locations than
in those from dry sites.
