Abstract Here at last is a definitive work on diatom morphology, taxonomy, and ecology. In this monumental atlas are presented a completely revised classification, a comprehensive up-to-date account of research into the biology of diatoms; a generic atlas of centric, araphid, and raphid genera; appendices listing new and recently described genera; a most valuable Index Nominum Genicorum; and finally an extremely useful list of references, as well as a taxonomic and a subject index—in fact everything a struggling diatomist could want, except perhaps a glossary.
