The Royal Society of New Zealand provides new purpose built (2012) meeting and conference facilities that are ideal for a variety of corporate events, from small meetings, all-day workshops and seminars to cocktail functions and dinners.

The building is conveniently located in Thorndon and is built to state of the art earthquake proof standards. Each room offers natural light and pleasant surroundings.

Our capable and helpful team will assist you to ensure a successful function.

 We are located at 11 Turnbull Street, Thorndon, Wellington.

(A 5-10 minute walk from train and bus stations and with easy access from the motorway onto Murphy Street).

With prior arrangement, there are 18 onsite carparks usually available in the evening and weekends. On weekdays during business hours there is no onsite parking.

There is metered street parking on Murphy Street.

Room Hire Rates, Sizes and Capacity

Rooms are hired in sessions: (Can be extended by prior arrangement). All prices are exclusive of GST.

Morning 8.30am – 12.00pm
Afternoon 1.00pm – 4.30pm
Evening 6.00pm – 9.30pm

The lecture theatre is situated on the ground floor with airconditioning, built in projectors and screens in three positions, hearing loop, wheelchair access and can be opened onto an external garden courtyard.

The meeting rooms are situated on level 1 with both stair and lift access. These rooms are airconditioned, offer fixed whiteboards/projection screens with floor hubs for electronic equipment. The individual rooms can be opened to form one larger room if required.

The third meeting room on level 1 is ideal as a breakout room or for interviews and smaller meetings.

Audio Visual Facilities

Fully integrated audio-visual facilities are available to cater for most requirements. The lecture theatre is fitted with three high resolution data projectors and drop-down screens. If you are bringing your own laptop for use in the lecture theatre, please test it on our system before the event.


Catering is provided by external parties. We are happy to organise this for you for morning/afternoon teas and lunches.

Dinners must be organised and managed by the hirer.

We work closely with several very experienced and professional catering companies who are familiar with the facilities available.
