Ian Warrington is currently Deputy Vice Chancellor at the Palmerton North campus of Massey University and also retains the role of Professor of Horticultural Science. He has spent most of his career studying the growth and development of a diverse range of plants, including fruit and ornamental crops, with particular emphasis on their responses to environmental factors such as temperature, light intensity and quality, and photoperiod. Much of his research has been focussed on the application of fundamental results from specialised controlled environment research to applied field situations. He has edited authoritative texts on the biology, production and uses of both kiwifruit and apples. Dr Warrington is well known internationally for his leadership in horticultural science.
