Professor Ken Strongman is Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the College of Arts at the University of Canterbury but will relinquish that role on 3 August to become Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Government and Community Relations). For 25 years he was Professor of Psychology in the University and was Head of Department for 15 of those years, as well as acting as Head of other departments in the University for managerial reasons. He is a world expert in the field of emotion, his The Psychology of Emotion having been published in five editions, the most recent in 2003. He has published in academic journals across all aspects of emotion from both an empirical and a theoretical perspective. He has supervised a large number of doctoral and master’s students many of whom are now in influential positions throughout the world, and written 10 books. Although now in a full time managerial position, he remains engaged in research supervision.
