The Hutton Medal is awarded annually, in rotation for:
- earth sciences;
- plant sciences;
- animal sciences
to the researcher who, working within New Zealand, has significantly advanced understanding of the natural environment of New Zealand through work of outstanding scientific or technological merit.
The awardee must have received the greater part of his/her education in New Zealand or have resided in New Zealand for not less than 10 years.
Applications are now being called for the 2013 Hutton Medal in plant sciences. The closing date for application is 30 June 2013.
