The Hutton Medal is awarded annually, in rotation, for earth sciences, plant sciences, and animal sciences, to the researcher who, working within New Zealand, has significantly advanced understanding of the natural environment of New Zealand through work of outstanding scientific or technological merit. The awardee must have received the greater part of his/her education in New Zealand or have resided in New Zealand for not less than 10 years.
Applications are now being called for the 2012 Hutton Medal in earth sciences. The closing date for application is 30 June 2012.
