The annual income from the Fund is distributed as follows:

Charles Fleming Fund – Senior Scientist Award
Up to $10,000 is available annually to support the research of a senior scientist at a university or Crown Research Institute in New Zealand, and that of their research group.

Charles Fleming Fund – Publishing Award
Up to $8,000 is available annually to support the preparation of scientific books and relevant publications.
Charles Fleming Award for Environmental Achievement
Environmental science award for protection of the New Zealand environment, awarded every three years.
The Royal Society Council agreed to discontinue the Charles Fleming Travel Fund at the end of 2011. There were so many applications for so little funding that it was considered best to discontinue the travel funds and increase the funding of the Publishing Award.
