George Gordon

Mr George Gordon won one of the two inaugural scholarships to study at the University of Cambridge in 2009.

His PhD research will be in the Centre for Photonic Systems, focussing on wireless communication between devices, with applications in an ‘intelligent airport’.

George completed his B. Eng (Hon, 1st Class), at the University of Auckland. He is with Trinity College, as was Ernest Lord Rutherford in 1894-7.

Ms Rachael Shaw

Ms Rachael Shaw won the other inaugural 2009 scholarship. She completed both B. Arts and B. Science (Hon) at the University of Auckland.

She is studying evolutionary psychology, and will be using behavioural tests of autonoetic conciousness in the Western scrub-jay bird. Her findings may challenge the dogma that only humans can relive past events and envisage future scenarios.
