Abstract Description of a new species of lithodid decapod crustacean Paralomis debodeorum, from middle-late Miocene rocks of Motunau Beach, North Canterbury, New Zealand, constitutes the first record of king crabs from the fossil record. The species most closely resembles the extant P. zealandica Dawson & Yaldwyn.
