The Science Teaching Leadership Programme supports the Government’s national strategic plan for science in society by providing opportunities for schools to enhance science learning within their school communities.

It provides opportunities for nominated teachers of years 1-10 to be hosted in a scientific environment and develop their leadership skills and then lead the improvement of science teaching at their school.

The nominated teacher from each school or science department will:

  • gain an understanding of the Nature of Science curriculum strand through workshops and working in a scientific organisation for two terms
  • develop their leadership skills through participating in leadership training
  • facilitate improvement of science teaching and student learning school-wide, working alongside their principal and/or head of department to enhance the school’s science programme and vision for science

This initiative requires an agreement from the school or science department to make science learning and development a priority for a year following the nominated teacher’s return to school.

Applications for this programme are now closed.
There will be another application round, early in 2016, for schools wanting to begin phase one of the programme in either term 3 2016 or term 1 2017.
