Dr Ian Ferguson
Dr Ian Ferguson was the Chief Science Advisor at the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries from 2012 to 2017. Prior to that he was Chief Scientist of Plant & Food Research, for 10 years and is a leading New Zealand and international researcher in plant biochemistry and physiology science. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and a Life Member of the New Zealand Society of Plant Physiologists. He has, for a number of years, been a member of many New Zealand Government funding and review panels and bodies, including two terms on the Marsden Fund Council, chairing the Cellular, Molecular and Physiology panel, and the Rutherford Discovery Fellowship panel.
He has been long-time Joint Editor-in-Chief of the leading international journal Postharvest Biology & Technology, and involved in a number of international collaborations, including Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand, and a 20 year collaboration with Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, as Guang Biao Visiting Professor. He was awarded a membership of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2010 for contributions to horticultural science. In 2013, he was given a National Friendship Award by the Chinese Government, and a Westlake Friendship Award by the Zhejiang Provincial Government. In 2014, Dr Ferguson was made a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute for Agricultural and Horticultural Science, and a Fellow of the International Society for Horticultural Science.
