Sir Ernest Marsden
CREST 150th Celebration investigations
Sir Ernest Marsden CMG CBE MC FRS (1889 –1970) was a leading scientist, lecturer and science administrator.
In 1926, he became the permanent secretary of the newly established DSIR. Among his priorities were New Zealand’s agriculture and pastoral farming communities, so as part of his new role he established the plant research and soil bureaus. He played a very personal part in promoting these agencies, and they continue to play an important role in New Zealand today under the name Landcare Research.
