New Zealand Histories School Curriculum

At the request of the Ministry of Education, the Society has convened an expert panel to provide advice on the development of the New Zealand Histories Curriculum.

The panel acts as a collective source of expertise on the body of knowledge in relation to New Zealand’s histories across all time periods, from a variety of perspectives, and for both English and Māori medium education contexts. The Group is directly advising the Ministry curriculum writers group at key points in the process of curriculum development on both curriculum content and the content of the intended accompanying resources.

It is anticipated that the Society will publish a publicly available written expert view of the panel on the curriculum once the latter is available.

Members of the panel are:

  • Professor Charlotte Macdonald FRSNZ (co-chair)
  • Professor Michael Belgrave (co-chair)
  • Sir Tipene O’Regan CRSNZ
  • Professor Manying Ip FRSNZ
  • Professor Emerita Barbara Brookes
  • Professor Jim McAloon
  • Associate Professor Damon Salesa
  • Dr Vincent O’Malley
  • Sean Mallon
