Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this is a senior position within the Academy & Operations team at Royal Society Te Apārangi.

A critical part of Royal Society Te Apārangi is its Academy of Fellows, each elected for distinction in research or their eminence in advancing science, technology or the humanities.  The academy is governed by an Academy Executive Committee according to Bylaws approved by the Fellows.  The functions of the academy are supported by the Academy Executive Officer.  In that role the Officer takes responsibility for managing all the operational activities needed to have a fully functioning Academy.  The Officer will work with leading researchers and scholars to advance New Zealand’s national academy for research and scholarship, including contributing to strategic advice to further develop the Academy.

Candidates for this role should have an interest and knowledge of research and research processes, across the wide range of disciplines. Knowledge of rangahau and Mātauranga Māori, and experience in working with Māori communities with an interest in generating and using new knowledge would be advantageous. The Academy Executive Officer must have the skills to self-manage a complex annual programme of activities with a high degree of reliability and accuracy. The Officer must be able to communicate empathetically with leading researchers and scholars both nationally and overseas, as well as senior managers in research organisations.
