Christchurch Urban Waterway Walk

Join a guided walk along the Ōtākaro (Avon) to explore some of the historic, current and future water stories of Christchurch.

The walk will take place along the Ōtākaro (Avon) from the Margaret Mahy Playground, through to end at the Terraces. Along the way, you will stop and hear from speakers about different aspects of this water story.

Topics from the existence of the culturally significant Frees Creek, to the history of stormwater management in Christchurch will be addressed.

There will be an introduction of the six values approaches, recent successful consenting process, upcoming changes to the lower Avon Ōtākaro network and plans for the Residential Red Zone - all whilst showcasing some great examples of Water Sensitive Urban Design approaches which are starting to become more prevalent across the city.

The walk will finish at a central location where the kōrero will be continued with some drinks and nibbles.
