Kaiarotake Rangahau | Research Assessor (12-month fixed term contract)
The Royal Society Te Apārangi is seeking a candidate who will provide support for the Research Funding team as we manage the changing needs and activities undertaken by our kaimahi staff over the coming year.
This role will involve providing support for, and operation of, a monitoring, reporting and evaluation system for research projects which have been assigned funding by Royal Society Te Apārangi. The role of Kaiarotake Rangahau | Research Assessor also encompasses supporting and providing administrative services for the various funding opportunities on offer. The team administers several Government research funds, including the Marsden Fund Te Pūtea Rangahau a Marsden, the Tāwhia te Mana Research Fellowships, and the Catalyst Fund.
The Research Funding team works collectively and has responsibility to cover a broad range of disciplines in technology, science, social sciences, humanities, and mātarauanga. You will enjoy working with Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading researchers, international experts, and international research organisations.
Pūtake tūranga | What you will do
In this role you will be involved with:
- Maintaining a reporting and evaluation system for Research Fund contracts, over the life cycle of the projects.
- Operating a monitoring system for Research Fund contracts that includes relationships with researchers through both email and site visits.
- Providing support for the administration of the Research Fund bidding rounds.
- Actively promoting and publicising the individual Research Funds.
- Communications development and dissemination for the Funds to key stakeholders and hapori communities.
Pukēnga | Skills and experience
You will ideally have:
- A high level of technical expertise with a relevant PhD qualification
- we seek expertise that will complement our current kaimahi staff team.
- Experience within a professional research environment.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Understanding and ability to engage in āhuatanga Māori (values, culture, tikanga and te reo) or a desired commitment to align with the kaupapa wānanga values of the Society.
- Knowledge of the New Zealand research funding landscape.
- Understanding of communications channels and audience engagement.

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) 12-month fixed term position.
Te Mahi | Job Description
This role reports to Tumu Pūtea Maruārangi | Director - Research Funding.
Salary range current midpoint: $97,600. The full salary range is 85% - 115% of the midpoint. An expected appointing salary will be up to the midpoint, depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
