Ko mātou tēnei
This is who we are
We believe that partnering with Māori is essential to the long term success of the Society. Additionally, embracing diversity in all we do is identified as a cross-cutting theme in the Royal Society Te Apārangi’s Strategic Plan.
As part of this work, we report on available relevant data with an annual report. We started this process in 2017. As expected, it showed we have a long way to go, but we are progressing. We are also making continuous improvements in the way we collect data. In the 2019/2020 report, for the first time we include contextualising information about the areas that we gather information on, as well as a qualitative summary of where we are so far. In a number of areas we have more data, and in some cases we have been able to break the data down into smaller slices. The data are therefore available in an excel file format for ease of viewing.
We have also chosen to rename the report from Diversity stocktake, to Ko mātou tēnei: This is who we are. This is to reflect the purpose and content of the report, which is to better understand and acknowledge the people who make up our organisation, our working partnerships, and those who interact with us.
