Early diagnosis and the better management of cancer

Early diagnosis and treatment transform an individual’s chance of surviving cancer. Working in partnership with an affected Māori whanau, Parry Guilford’s team developed a genetic test identifying individuals at risk of developing an aggressive form of familial stomach cancer, benefiting hundreds of families worldwide. For the majority of cancers not associated with a clear family history, simple blood or urine tests can provide an opportunity to diagnose disease earlier, reduce cost and increase the effectiveness of treatment.
