Future-proofing Aotearoa: Preparing for the population changes ahead
Our population is changing rapidly. Are we prepared?
Our population is forecast to continue to grow – from 5.3 million people today to 7 million by 2060 – and age, urbanise, and diversify over that time.
The changes raise urgent questions: Who will we rely on for our future workforce? How can we provide for – and invest in – our tamariki and mokopuna? How can we manage increasing costs of pensions and healthcare? What services will rural communities require? How should we approach immigration?
In this webinar, leading experts will share data and insights on our population:
- Professor Paul Spoonley FRSNZ – an international perspective on demography and social change
- Professor Tahu Kukutai FRSNZ – specialist on Māori and Indigenous demography and data sovereignty
- Associate Professor Polly Atatoa Carr – public health expert, on the determinants of health and wellbeing at the population level
- Dr Patrick Nolan – policy and research for our ageing population (Retirement Commission)
They will also discuss the implications for our future, and give their advice on how we might respond.
Register for the webinar to put your questions to these experts, and participate in live polls on these critical issues for New Zealand's future.
