New Zealand Archaeology Week 2020
New Zealand Archaeology Week was held from 24 April to 3 May 2020, organised by the New Zealand Archaeological Association. This was the fourth New Zealand Archaeology Week and due to Covid-19 was an online event this year. New Zealand Archaeology Week had to change over rather quickly from a public event to an online format. This meant that many events and activities around the country had to be cancelled, and changed our focus to what we could do with social media.
The New Zealand Archaeological Association worked with a number of partners to develop and share content on our social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Partners included the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai, Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, The Past from Above, Auckland Council, University of Auckland, The Southern Cemeteries Project, The City Remains, Southern Archaeology, MishMish Heritage and Underground Overground Archaeology. The hashtag #NZArchweek2020 was used.
Photos, profiles, interesting artefacts and sites, historic images and archaeological aerials as well as profiles were put up through the week on a variety of platforms resulting in a very successful and interesting week.
