Nā Te Tumu Whakarae | Chief Executive update

Kia ora koutou.
Reading this month’s Member profile on John Bongard and having just inducted three more extraordinary people as Companions of the Society, I am reminded of the privilege, potential, and opportunity the Society has as a direct consequence of our membership.
This was recognised repeatedly during the process of developing our long-term strategy. Fundamentally, it is the people who make up the Society, along with the diverse, expert knowledge they hold, that sets us apart in being able to inform and influence the future ‘for the benefit of all’ as the strategy says.
Later in the newsletter you will see that on 17th of this month we welcomed Professor Jacky Bowring, Professor Paora John Tohiteururangi Tapsell, and Hoturoa Barclay-Kerr CNZM as Companions of the Society. Please do have a look at their biographical details which give a taste of their extraordinary achievements. Companions Day was a great celebration of these three, as well as an opportunity for all those Companions able to make it to get-together and discuss areas of mutual interest. We had 16 Companions attend the Forum either in person or online.
As part of our 3-year business plan, we are looking at strengthening the relationship with our members in practical ways that enable us all to be part of realising the full potential of the organisation, grasping the opportunities we have to make a difference in our country.
You will have recently received a message from our President inviting your feedback on one proposed mechanism for this. I’d like to take the opportunity to bring that to your attention again – your feedback is welcomed!
With my best wishes.
Ngā mihi nui,
Paul Atkins MRSNZ
