Royal Society Te Apārangi Council meeting – 11 February 2026

The Council met on 11 February, followed by a planning day on 12 February. It was a positive and high-energy set of discussions focused on orientating the Society to the year ahead.

The Council welcomed Hadee Thompson-Morrison, the inaugural ECR Board Observer, and Justine Daw, the new Chief Executive Officer. Five weeks into the role, Justine presented on her initial impressions, including the opportunities ahead for the Society.

The Council provided feedback on a draft He Mahinga Kai (te ao Māori) work programme, which will be further developed for consultation with staff and the Māori Electoral College.

The Council also discussed a draft Education Work Plan to deepen support for students and teachers in STEM. Both of these documents reflect the Society’s direction set out in the Growing Pathways of Knowledge strategy.
