Stroke survivors often leave hospital with limited access to ongoing rehabilitation, leaving many to face long-term disability alone. I seek to break
the wall of stroke disability by testing a practical, low-cost home programme that combines resistance-band training with whey-protein supplementation to rebuild strength, improve cardiovascular health, and restore independence after stroke.
Shamirah Nabbosa is a PhD candidate in Sport, Exercise, and Nutrition at Massey University, where she leads community-based research integrating clinical nutrition and resistance training to improve recovery after stroke. She has a strong background in dietetics, public health, programme implementation, and global health research, and gained a Masters degree in South Korea and a Bachelors (with honours) in Uganda. She is passionate about translating science into practical rehabilitation solutions, whether through academia or international development projects.
